3d Cone Beam CT Imaging

Advanced Diagnostic Technology for Safer, More Accurate Surgical Planning

Imaging That Enhances Precision

At Star Oral Surgery, we use in-house 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to deliver a higher standard of surgical care. This advanced imaging technology provides three-dimensional, high-resolution views of the teeth, jaws, sinuses, nerve pathways, and surrounding structures, all with significantly lower radiation exposure than traditional medical CT scans.

CBCT allows Dr. Bobst to evaluate anatomy accurately and confidently for both routine procedures and complex surgical cases, ensuring safer, more predictable outcomes.

What Is CBCT?

CBCT is a specialized type of digital X-ray imaging that captures a complete 3D view of your maxillofacial region in a single, quick scan. The scanner rotates around the patient’s head, collecting hundreds of images that are reconstructed into a detailed three-dimensional model.

This allows for precise visualization of:

  • Tooth roots and bone levels
  • Nerve canals (e.g., inferior alveolar nerve)
  • Sinus cavities
  • Impacted or missing teeth
  • Jaw joint (TMJ) anatomy
  • Pathology, cysts, or lesions

When Is 3D Imaging Used?

CBCT plays a vital role in diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning for:

  • Dental implant placement
  • Wisdom teeth evaluation
  • Bone grafting and sinus lift procedures
  • Impacted tooth location (e.g., canines)
  • Oral pathology detection
  • Facial trauma assessment
  • TMJ disorders

This technology is particularly valuable in minimizing surgical risk by identifying critical anatomical structures such as nerves and sinus boundaries.

Advantages for Patients

  • Improved diagnostic accuracy
  • Customized surgical planning with reduced guesswork
  • Minimally invasive procedures due to precise measurements
  • Lower radiation dose compared to hospital-based CT scans
  • Faster, more efficient treatment coordination

Our scanner provides complete imaging in seconds, with no discomfort. The data is immediately available for review and can be securely shared with your dentist, orthodontist, or other providers as needed.

Supporting Referring Providers

Star Oral Surgery offers 3D imaging services not only for our surgical patients, but also as a diagnostic resource for referring dentists and specialists. We’re happy to provide CBCT scans with interpretation and/or export them digitally to support collaborative treatment planning.

If you’re a provider interested in referring for 3D imaging, please visit our Referring Providers page or contact our office directly.
